Modelling techniques

The tutorial mainly teaches how to model to an image front and side view of a head starting from a cube and extruding.

Here is the image that is provided in the tutorial and that the head is modelled from:

The head and face are constructed originally from a cube which is extruded into the basic shape of a head.

Detail is then added gradually with extrude scaling of faces and knife cutting to get more vertices to move.

The shape of the head has to be tweaked over and over during the whole process to achieve a good shape.

After the first of the 5 videos you end up with a generic head that the tutorial suggests could be used to model almost any character. This is then saved seperately. This should prove extremely useful when modelling other characters as a basis to start from.
